Okay it’s a little bit of clickbait because my acne isn’t “cleared” but for the most part my skin is sooo much better then it used to be.
I’m gonna start with the back story behind this. I’ve talked about this before but I quit wearing makeup on a day to day basis. For me and my job right now it’s so much easier. As soon as I stopped wearing makeup I noticed how bad my skin was.
I was like shouldn’t it be better without all this makeup on top of it? I was thinking I needed to wear makeup to help my skin. That wasn’t the case. I wore makeup everyday so the only time I saw my skin was at night before bed. Not wearing makeup was showing me how bad my skin was.
So back in August of 2019 I really started to notice. I had a lot of acne on my chin which I was blaming on hormones. Which yes is still part of the case. And all these bumps all over the rest of my face. A few months passed and it wasn’t clearing up so in October I knew it was time for a change.
I can’t afford a dermatologist, so I needed to do it myself. I started all over. I got rid of everything I was using and bought all new products. It was risky, but for me it worked! My skin looks and feels so much better now and let’s finally get into how I did it!
Here’s some progress picture from October until now
My starting point
Around 1 month in after making my change
About 3 months in
Today (February 2020)
As you can see I still have some acne and a lot of scares. I was waiting on this pimple on my right eye to heal before I wrote this but it’s been like 3-4 weeks so you get it see it anyway 🤷🏻♀️
Let’s get to the products and what else I did to change my face!
Step one: throw everything away!
I got rid of all my old skin care for the most part. If you knew me I loved my neutrogena cream and makeup removers. Those are gone. I recently found out how much fragrance was in them and it was time for new stuff. Like I said I couldn’t afford a dermatologist which also means I can’t afford high end products. So off to target I went!
Step 2: Wash your face!
I know it’s basic and annoying and everyone said it. And it would make me so mad when I would talk about my acne and people would say do you wash your face? Like duh I wash my face. What I didn’t know is I wasn’t washing enough.
I used to wash at night and splash some water in the morning. Not enough! I am an avid gym goer and this meant I was sweating a lot and then leaving the sweat there. Not okay.
So now I wash my face 2-3 times a day. Rarely ever 3 but it does happen. In the morning either before makeup or after the gym and at night still of course. Here’s what I use now.
Right now I’m using the cetaphil because I used up my simple one but either on my face work great! But as a makeup remover I used the purity to do that step one.
I still use my trusty foreo every night. I don’t use it in the morning I use either my cetaphil or simple cleaner just with my hands.
Twice a week I use this burts bees acne cleanser at night just to keep a little bit of salicylic acid in my routine.
Step 3 Exfoliate
Now I only exfoliate 1-2 times a week in the summer and 2-3 times a week in the winter. I have very dry skin and I live in a very dry climate so this has to be done
I still just use the same exfoliater as I used to so no change here.
Step 4: Moisturize
Like I just said I have very dry skin and I was almost scared to not use a super intense moisturizer.
I apply this every time after I wash my face. If it’s once a day or three times a day this goes on my face. And it works just fine. It’s enough for me and even though it’s light I really enjoy it.
Also whenever I’m feeling a little lazy I use makeup removers still. I know I shouldn’t but I do and I think I always will. But just not the neutrogena ones
I did some research on the best makeup removers for sensitive skin and the aveeno ones came up. They worked but the smell really bothered me I didn’t like it. I’ve been using the simple ones and they’re great with no weird smell.
That’s my skin care now! It’s simple but effective for me and my skin.
I’m sorry this was a crazy long post but I really wanted to share and maybe it will help someone out there like it helped me☺️
